Flying to New Zealand
by Tsemer on Feb.19, 2010, under China, Intercontinental, New Zealand
After a last lingering day in Beijing, in which we bought everything we thought would be cheaper there than New Zealand (other than sunscreen, which the Chinese don’t seem to have), it was time for us to say goodbye to the largest of continents. The day after The Great Wall we decided to take it easy. We spent the morning writing our blog and in the afternoon we strolled through Wangfujing road, the famous shopping street of Beijing. We visited the night market where we actually found people selling dog meat stews (!), nashed (yes, it’s a word! it means ‘snacking’, but I’m pretty sure you all know that already..) some kebabs and went back. We stayed at the hostel that night, where we talked with Michelle and met a friendly British guy (Peter, was it?), who was flying to Korea the next day to re-unite with his Korean girlfriend.
A Great Wall Indeed

Already on our arrival in the hostel, the staff tried to convince us to take a tour to the Great Wall, for which they would charge 260¥ (26€) per person. We seriously considered this offer, but after some checking on the internet we realized we could definitely save money by getting there on our own, especially considering the ‘tour’ would simply take us there and back, no guidance provided.
