Raetea Forest
by Cinnie on Mar.02, 2010, under New Zealand
After a good night’s sleep at The Welcome Swallow we headed for Raetea Forest. Here was supposed to be a free DOC campsite and it was right on our way. We passed Doubtless Bay on the north side of the island, following the Twin Coast Discovery Highway. It was a VERY beautiful drive.

This is it. We’re officially starting our road trip in New Zealand. You have no idea how excited we are about this. We said goodbye to Stankie in the morning at Pentlands and then we decided to head to Northland. This is the most Northern region in New Zealand, above Auckland Region. It’s supposed to be one of the greenest regions of New Zealand, and since green is my favorite colour..
Mount Eden and Pentlands Hostel
by Cinnie on Feb.21, 2010, under New Zealand
We decided in China to already book the first few nights in Auckland, so that we wouldn’t have to start searching for a place when we’d arrive. This basically meant that we got out of the airplane, hopped on the Airport Express bus (which conveniently runs 24hrs a day) and got out in a neighbourhood called Mount Eden. We had to walk through the streets for about 10 minutes until we got to our hostel, but we weren’t complaining – this neighbourhood was sooo beautiful! It was all very clean, green all around and it was so amazingly quiet (especially compared to China
). Right there and then we decided we could totally live here. Such a shame this place is so far away..
