Soestduinen & Amersfoort
by Tsemer on Jan.04, 2010, under The Netherlands
First of all – some pronunciation: “oe” in Dutch is roughly equivalent to “oo” in English; “ui” is closest to “ow” (although not quite it); and “oo” is just a long “o”. Hence: Soostdownen & Amersfort. Well, kinda
.
Anyway, just wanted to share some pics of our trip with MoMesh to meet Carola & Erik-Jan aka EJ (Dutch pronunciation: Ey Yay
) in Amersfoort, their current place of residence, and our walk in the Soestduinen park. For the curious fellas – find out what duinen means here. We saw their super cute house, almost leaning over the old city walls – gonna have us one like that someday, you’ll see – and had lunch in the cute town center. Also passed by the second highest cathedral in the Netherlands, but alas, no pics there. Oh well.

So first of all… a very happy new year to everyone!! Hope all of you had a smashing new year’s celebration and a good start of the new year..
We really had a great party – thanks Pascale and Bart! With way-way-way too much (and delicious) food and tons of fireworks. It was so much fun to see the whole Kramer-family get utterly excited over lighting their own fireworks, that I even forgot my fear of it from time to time. You’ll find below some pics of them playing with the firecrackers, and I guess the smile on Paulien’s face says it all

The concert we went to was really cool.
A talented guy called Bob Zimmerman (no, a different one), arranged lots of chansons for a singer and an orchestra. The singer was a bit cocky, but nonetheless a good singer with quite a pleasant capacity for expression. The orchestra was powerful and impressive, and the conductor seemed to have a splendid time, all wrapped up in the music. The hall was the Philharmonie of Haarlem, a beautiful concert hall just walking distance from Bart & Pascale’s house. And there was even the Israeli connection: “Après le Froid“, a rearranged and translated version for the song “After the Cold” of Yossi Banai
.
All in all, we had a great time!
The two following days and nights were devoted to Monique and Ramesh, our splendidly insane inter-cultural friends. Pauli & Nic. (this is not a typo, he writes his name with a dot) dropped us off at their house in Amsterdam, and within an instant we were in gameland. You see, they love games. As do we. Finally! MUHAHAHA!
